Mortgage Lifter
Sweet, meaty, mild — excellent fresh and for sauce
Bred by M.C. "Radiator Charlie" Byles in the 1930s by crossing four large tomato varieties. He sold plants for $1 each and paid off his $6,000 mortgage in six years. The tomato that earned its name — large, productive, and reliably excellent.
One of the most reliable large beefsteaks. Consistent production, good disease resistance for an heirloom.
Why This Plant Is Here
Mortgage Lifter has a specific role in this year's garden: flavor, beauty, pollinator support, story, or seasonal production.
